Day four

Today has been a good! We had a little scare this morning when we could not find Babys A heartbeat but after searching for about 15 minutes we found her hiding:) I have such a peace about being here and have even made friends with a couple of other high risk pregnant moms. Everyone here at Mcleod have been so nice and have really worked hard at trying to monitoring the twins. I have walking priviledges which means that when Im not being monitored I can walk around the fourth floor, and when Leon comes to see me I can even go to the second floor and even to the cafe to get his food for dinner. Leon has dinner with me every night and is even spending the night tonight and we are planning to watch the movie "The Express". Mom and Dad and the kids have also been by to visit often along with some good friends.

Next week they plan to up my monitoring and administer two steroid shots to help prepare the babies lungs for preterm delievery. Thank you all for your prayers and please continue to pray for our babies Also pray for me that I may be positive and be a light to these new friends of mine on this floor. It can be such a scary place when your child is at risk.

An example of cord entanglement

Here is a picture of the cords of a mother of mono/ mono twins. She is from my momo support website known as momma Kate. Her girls were born at 32 1/2 weeks and are doing great now. Its a great example of cord entanglement, and this is why it is so important for me to be inpatient now to monitor the babies and make sure that they are getting everything they need. Thanks for your prayers.

Day one and two in Hospital

Well, I am finally here. I arrived on Tuesday around 4:00. My room is very nice and the nurses seem to be very nice as well. They all seem to be very informed about momo twins and realize that I will be here a longggg time. Once admitted, I had alot of blood work done and was ( or we tried) to have the babies continously monitored for 1 hour straight with a stress test. The nurses had a very hard time getting both babies on the montiors for one whole hour. With momos, this seems to be very difficult because they are so close together.

My orders are to montior the babies with a stress test every morning, and then if everything looks ok to just check the every four hours. I didnt realize that also meant in the middle of the night. That was very hard last night to have to be woken up by the nurse at midnight and then at four to be monitored. But I keep telling myself this is not about me but for the babies.

Leon of course was with me all day and Mom and Dad and the kids came to see me last night. I think we all realize that this is a whole new chapter in this pregnancy and we are in for a long haul.

Day two

Woke up at 5:30 am and walked around the halls twice. It was also nice to see the snow outside in Florence sc. The nurses once again are having trouble getting the readings on both babies for one continous hour. In fact, After trying for about an hour they are going to let the babies settle down and try again in a bout 45 minutes. I saw my doctor and we discussed when I would go on continous monitoring, but with them having a hard time getting it for one straight hour I cannot imagine doing it non stop all day and night. The babies seem to be very active which is good but also makes it very hard for them to see how they are actually doing with thier heartbeats and blood flow. At least I get to hear thier heartbeats all throughtout the day and to be honest that alone has helped me to relax a lot more then if I was at home. Im glad and thankful that I am here.

Had a great Appointment at MUSC

We had a great appointment on Monday. The girls are doing good and have gained some weight. Twin A is 1 pound 3 ounces and Twin B is 1 pound 1 ounce. They do not seemed to be anymore tangled then before. They also said that "twin to twin transfusion" does not seem to be anything we need to worry about which is a bigggg praise. They are very active and have good heartbeats.

Its so funny because everytime I go for my appointment at MUSC they have student nurses and or doctors that will come and observe our "momo twins" on ultrasound. This week I had two doctors that came to talk with us. Im glad we can assist in there education, especially since momo twins are so rare:):)

We are scheduled to go into the hospital on Feb 3rd at Mcleod. We had our appointment to tour the NICU at Mcleod and were very impressed. We were able to see babies born as early as 25 weeks. It was very humbling to see because they were sooo small. The staff seems to really be great there and everyone is so freindly.

On Feb 3rd I will be 25 weeks when I will be admitted to the hospital and so we are hoping and praying that I can make it to 32 weeks. Therefore I am trying to prepare myself for a long stay. I am looking forward to finally getting into the hosptial so that I do not have to worry anymore everytime I dont feel the girls moving. At least this way I can know that they are ok on a daily basis, which will be wonderful!!! The plan is that I will have continous montoring and if the girls get into distress then they will do an emergency c section. This is pretty standard for momo twins.

I just want to say thank you all so much for your prayers! Everyone has been so supportive. Thanks again!

Finally Feeling the girls move on a regular schedule

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! We sure have!

We are at the beach with my sweet sisters family and are having a great time. It has been so nice to finally feel the girls move inside me. They are very active. We are starting to get excited and start purchasing just a few things for the girls and trusting God that he will lead us through the next few (short months). I have been a little guarded about fitting out a whole nursery, simply because we know the high risks we are facing. I think mentally and spiritually we are letting go of our reservations and just getting so excited and hopeful that everything will be ok. I guess as Christians we know that no matter what our future holds we, as a family, will be ok. Thank you for your prayers for the girls. We are looking forward to our next doctors appt. on Monday, 1/6. Then our next MUSC appt is on 1/12 with Dr. Newman. I will be going into the hospital for the remainer of my pregnancy the first or second week in Feb.

We are having twin GIRLS:):):)

Sorry it took me so long to post after our doctors appt. We really had a great visit. All the ultrasound measurements were good and the girls have healthy heartbeats. They were moving like crazy and they looked like they were hugging one another when they were not kicking each other. Their cords are still tangled but that can be expected with momo twins sense there is nothing separating them from each other. Please keep praying until our next visit in two weeks. The doctor reminds us that we pretty much have to go from ultrasound to ultrasound to monitor that the girls are safe.

Pray for the Klassen family

The Klassen family just lost their momo twins at 18 weeks the day before Thanksgiving. Kerry Klassen is apart of the support group for expectant moms of momo twins, she is also the one that i used her example from her blogspot to demostrate our situation with pictures and diagrams. Please join us in praying for her and her family.
